Jun. 28th, 2008 03:01 amoookay so the 3rd Patlabor movie is... pretty messed up compared to the first two. I never really actually read too much about it ahead of time, so I was expecting it to be what Patlabor is usually about, that being people hanging around talking about the politics surrounding mechs, some detective work, and then a little bit of mech action. The third movie has a lot of detective work, only a tiny bit of mech action, and a whole lot of thinking 'holy crap, we definitely didn't make things like that in genetic engineering'.
Overall in terms of enjoyment from most to least for the three movies, I'd say 1, 3, 2. The second movie probably would have been better if my disc wasn't messed up and skipped a whole lot (I think somehow it may actually be rotting since it isn't scratched, but it isn't that old).
Might also be noted that Mamoru Oshii directed the first two, though for the third there were a couple of parts that seemed to be emulating his style, mostly with the random shots of nature or overhead city shots, with ambient yet dramatic music.
And if you're still around the rochester area, and want to watch something on a decent home theater setup (okay, well the tv is 20" but the audio part is sweet) let me know. It's weird being the only person in this apartment all the time, and surround sound rocks.
