furube yura yura to furube
Jun. 22nd, 2008 11:29 pmSo, I finished watching Karas (actually bought the dvds).
Not sure what to think, but I could definitely describe the experience with something like 'Fucked up metropolis matrix super sentai, batman! With demons, in Tokyo.' At the least it was definitely better split between two discs than between six OAVs.
I also can't help comparing it to Advent Children in way; they both have good animation (although Advent Children has the upper hand there), ridiculous fight scenes, and don't really make much sense. Err, well I suppose by the end Karas does come together, but does still feel a bit disjointed.
But holy crap the sound design was awesome, they did an amazing job on the sound. First disc was more of a subwoofer workout than the second, but overall it was definitely fairly immersive. Great soundtrack.
I watched the english voice production behind-the-scenes and interview on the second disc- and found that it wasn't edited basically at all, which was hilarious. First time I've seen something like that on a commercial DVD. For the interview, after the second question, the guy asking the questions (who I believe was also the camera guy) realized they should move the microphone (since they were in the recording booth) and so you see another guy walk in front of the camera to move it etc, and then at the end he asks the first two questions again, as if they were going to edit it so that they had video from all the questions with the mic in the new position. I guess in the end they didn't think anyone would care, or maybe they got lazy, but it's definitely kind of funny.
Tomorrow will hopefully be finishing the thesis proposal (first draft at least), and a comp org lab. Yay.
