Aug. 6th, 2006 10:27 pmI keep meaning to write something here, but everytime I think I should, I always get immediately distracted, and then realize a week later "hey, I didn't write anything about *insert event here*". After a while it starts to seem more insignificant, like it just seems like it'd be silly now to write about everything that happened for do stuff for stuff, although I'll say that wow swimming is hard even if you run alot, I probably wouldn't want to eat durian if I didn't have to (it's banned in alot of public places in singapore because of the scent), and being carried through a swamp for like 1/8th mile in darkness by 3 people to collect glowsticks hanging from trees is quite an experience.
Outside of that, general status updates, I've been working at Boehringer Ingelheim under the guise of an analytical chemistry intern, although I really kinda don't have the chem background to be really useful. Also been doing alot of random computer stuff for people when it comes up, and more recently alot of really trying to play drums with a click track for our recordings- which has taken a really long time to get right, and I've spent probably close to a few dozen hours working on it at Brians house. Somewhat pathetically though, despite all that time, I've only finished like 4 or 5 songs now. They sound good, and it should be better mixed than anything we've had before also, thanks to a few new microphones and Brian having had a year to mess with Nuendo and various mixing techniques. Even if we only end up with a few songs done, they should sound professional-ish enough to at least not feel guilty about trying to make people listen to them, so maybe we could end up with more than the 3 or 4 'fans' we have now, and more than just ourselves visiting the website.
Recent hardware failures, in chronological order: Sent Acer laptop in for warranty service because it would shut off randomly.. got it back not really fixed, sent it in again and they replaced the motherboard, so everything is good with that again (and now the warranty expired so I just made it). Chaintech motherboard in the 'blackbeast' died after a failure flashing the BIOS, it's currently in California for warranty service. One of the Rode NT-5 mics in the pair I bought that we're using for drum overheads makes intermittent horrible noise, but works fine for a few hours at a time- already have an RMA for that, but I'll wait until we're done recording drums to send that back. Also decided to retire all my original crash cymbals since they're all horribly cracked and make much worse noise than they're suppossed to, so just left with the 16" AAX studio crash and 17" AAX stage crash which are awesome but after having like 5, 2 crashes feels kind of limiting. Hard drive in the compaq AP400 sorta seems to be giving out, hopefully I'll have a chance to recover whats on it when I get a replacement drive.
And actually seeing the snakes on a plane trailer before clerks was pretty neat, Meredith and I started applauding when we realized what it was. Also, the new transformers movie could be good, Optimus Prime FTW. Connecticon was a pretty good and interesting day, eventually we'll actually goto a con for all three days- Otakon anyone? Was sorta waiting for Jessie to come home from work and come online but I really ought to goto sleep, I guess this ended up being kind of long anyway, so if anyone is annoyed that I didn't cut it.. well I guess tell me and I'll cut it.
