May. 2nd, 2004 12:07 amthat just about wraps up spring fest '04.. i think for a bunch of people this was probably the first weekend when they got a chance to 'enjoy RIT'.. which i think they did a really good job with springfest this year and I hope CAB keeps it up since theyve had alot of events this year, and most of them have been good... so yeah.. walked around.. saw bands play.. played ut2k4 on an imac in the macRIT tournament, got my @ss kicked majorly because i wasnt used to the computer (and hadnt ever played the map) ok ok i ended up with -1 frags.. thats just embarrasing. lan party after lan party and then i end up with -1.. mostly because the mouse and i hadnt ever played the map but stil.. least the other people on the team didnt do much better. watched a band play a song in the rain, after which tech crew freaked out and started breaking down things (which i just stood there watching them wondering what they would do if i just started helping them.. although I have a job here that will probably last the next 4 years.. I want to be on tech crew.. hopefully they'd hire me if i applied again dont know why they didnt the first time). anyway resisted the urge all day to jump on the stage and play drums despite having some very good opportunities to do so. came back here, talked to jessie for a little while and then went to the guster show which was interesting and caused me to solidify my theory about rit student behavior which might apply to the rest of the world in general too.. stick "major concert" on the name of something or make it seem bigger and not only will people care, but theyll also be willing to pay for it, and theyll cheer and clap and make a general ruckus when they get there. No matter how good one of the bands was that had played outside earlier in the day, the singer kinda embarrassed himself by desprately trying to come up with things to say to get people to do anything... but then later on we filled the whole freaking hockey arena.. i dont understand this too much. well i do sort of.. a previous experiment of mine was leaving one of our cds out on the whiteboard outside the room with something saying "take this" next to it. It stayed there for 2 weeks and then finally when i was gone last weekend sean wrote in big letters "Steal this" and an arrow and somone finally took it. Hypothesis #2 people would rather steal music than have it given to them for free.. probably something along the lines of "Why would they give it away unless they sucked.." im not talking about people in general since there is a large group of people dedicated to local and underground bands, tey just dont seem to make themselves very well known here for whatever reason. the music world is getting more and more strange. where for a while there was much mixing of genres theyre starting to become distinct again.. while at the same time a few people are still hybridizing.. we have rock, electronica, (c)rap, and pop. Linkin park is electropraprock. I keep trying to figure out what could possibly come after the guitar.. although instruments are never really 'replaced' its pretty evident that for a long time the guitar has made itself known as the instrument of choice for most modern music. I really cant see electronica as it is found in most forms (1 or 2 djs) really becoming too popular for live shows outside of raves.. obviously electronica 'bands' such as prodigy (or maybe even NIN) are much more exciting to watch. now that I think about it maybe its really not the time yet for that... to try to figure out how the making of music itself will change in the near future.. wow how'd i get on that. anyway alot of it boils down to "adam when ya get back, ya really need to practice more" anyway posted more pics on the yahoo page http://photos.yahoo.com/ibmman85 from today and some past excursions.
