jessie had asked a few weeks ago about the possibility of sharing 'Kogepan' with visitors of her site and I thought it would be a good opportunity to do some experimenting with serving bittorrent files, so i worked on that today. before I bore too many people with detatils the page is at http://129.21.107.228 ok yeah it's being hosted on the k6-2 350mhz compaq that I picked up on electronics recycling day, and it has 128mb ram (dimm) and an 8gb quantum bigfoot drive and its running windows 98. not quite the best thing for a server, especially since the bigfoot drives are sooooooo slow... the rotational speed is like 2000 some odd rpm and the drives are big.. 5.25" wide. before this year i hadn't found any functional ones and suddenly I have 2 computers with working one's its pretty interesting. definitely were budget drives, and I like pretty much everything else quantum ever made though. it works. other issue is that here our outgoing bandwidth is actually capped (still better than most schools it seems) so although that makes initial downloads pretty slow, eventually if people are seeding it should be pretty good (nice thing about bittorrent). I'm also running my own tracker on that computer, and I think it's been running out of memory because ive been getting no buffer availible errors from the clients that are up, since I cant figure out anything that I did wrong in configuration that seems like one of the better if not best explanations for that, further investigation pending. for the tracker/website its running apache 2, and that was also my first time configuring apache (at home.. im running IIS.. on NT4 *gulp*). seems to be going fairly well, individual speeds are probably pretty slow at the moment. ah yes forgot to mention I actually uploaded the kogepan torrents to suprnova so thats why its getting all the traffic. for those of you who dont know what kogepan is check the info on animenfo http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,915,dkmlmx,kogepan.html i will say that its not really the typical 'anime style' and its 10 4 minute episodes for those that are anime-fearing (grr). oh well, i'll see how this works out and what improvements can be made. if theres anyone who wants me to host a torrent for them I can do that too, just might be a little slow at first until it gets some seeds..
